We’re building a Developer Productivity team that will become one of the most visible and impactful engineering groups at RWS. Our mission is simple: help 350+ engineers build, ship, and operate software faster, with less friction, better tooling, and a world-class developer experience.
We’re looking for a DevEx Engineer, an IC who combines technical curiosity with genuine enthusiasm for engineering culture, AI-assisted software development, and developer enablement. This is not a traditional DevOps or platform engineering role - it sits at the intersection of AI tooling, developer productivity, internal DevRel, metrics, automation, and engineering community building.
You’ll help us experiment with and operationalize the future of software development: AI development harnesses, agentic workflows, developer tooling ecosystems, engineering insights, and productivity platforms. You’ll also become a visible advocate for great engineering practices and help drive adoption of the tools and workflows we build.
This is a high-impact role with strong visibility across Product & Technology, working directly with platform engineering, SRE, product engineering teams, and senior technology leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Help design and build internal AI-assisted developer tooling and engineering workflows.
- Contribute to AI development harnesses, orchestration tooling, MCP integrations, prompt/tooling standards, and agentic development workflows.
- Support rollout and adoption of AI engineering and related ecosystem tooling.
- Help measure and improve developer productivity and experience using engineering metrics, developer sentiment, and workflow analysis.
- Interpret data for various sources to help teams understand engineering friction and impact, building and executing strategies to improve across the SDLC.
- Partner with engineers across the business to understand pain points and identify opportunities for automation and simplification.
- Contribute to internal developer portals, self-service tooling, onboarding experiences, and golden path workflows.
- Help run and grow engineering communities, knowledge sharing, internal demos, workshops, and AI adoption initiatives.
- Act as an enthusiastic advocate for modern engineering practices and AI-enabled software delivery.
- Work closely with our AI development community, Platform Engineering and SRE teams to improve tooling usability and adoption.
- Support experimentation and rapid prototyping of new developer productivity concepts.
Skills & Experience
- Has some hands-on software engineering experience in at least one modern programming language.
- Is excited by the AI-for-software-development movement and actively experiments deeply with modern AI coding tools.
- Enjoys helping other engineers succeed and improving the day-to-day developer experience.
- Has a strong curiosity around developer workflows, productivity, and engineering systems, with experience in enterprise contexts.
- Communicates clearly and enjoys collaborating across teams and disciplines.
- Cannot accept messy/friction-heavy processes and is driven by the need to turn them into streamlined experiences.
- Is comfortable learning new tools quickly and working across different areas of engineering.
- Has decent experience with automation, APIs, scripting, CI/CD, developer tooling, or cloud platforms.
- Familiarity with prompt engineering, AI orchestration frameworks, MCP servers, or agentic workflows.
Nice to Have
- Experience with developer productivity or DX metrics platforms.
- Exposure to platform engineering, internal developer platforms, Backstage, or self-service tooling.
- Experience running engineering communities, demos, workshops, or internal enablement initiatives.
- Experience with observability or engineering analytics tooling.
- Knowledge of GitHub Actions, Terraform, Kubernetes, or cloud-native workflows.
