Job Summary: Reporting to the Entertainment Technical Manager, the Senior Lighting Technician will support the Entertainment Technical Team in delivering all lighting and video related technical aspects of the entertainment programme onboard the ship. The role sits within the Entertainment Technical Team and interacts with the Entertainment Department, including Hosts, Show Cast Members, a Children’s Host team, a Musical Director and Resident Musicians.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver the entertainment lighting requirements onboard to the highest standards.
- Operate the lighting and AV systems in the theatre and other entertainment venues.
- Create and enhance guest experiences by delivering events to the highest technical standard.
- Ensure show products are delivered with integrity and up to the agreed standard after the install period; no re-programming or creative lighting changes without prior permission from RWS Global HQ.
- Programme and operate lighting for visiting artists’ shows; maintain and build lighting plots; assist with set-ups and striking of theatre scenery when necessary.
- Support the Entertainment Technical Manager with technical issues and with training and development of other Technicians in lighting operation, programming and maintenance.
- Maintain maintenance schedules and perform general repairs and upkeep of entertainment technical assets onboard.
- Occasionally operate lighting and AV for events outside the main theatre as directed to support operations and business needs.
- Adhere to emergency procedures, guest mustering and drills; receive and maintain relevant training.
- Represent RWS Global and Marella Cruises professionally onboard.
- Take ownership of lighting requirements in the theatre and other venues around the ship, ensuring events and rehearsals start on time and technical requirements are met.
- Follow the Entertainment Technical Manager’s instructions and work schedules, ensuring safe, efficient work in accordance with safety regulations.
- Provide leadership and technical training to other crew members in relation to lighting requirements.
- Complete accurate maintenance and equipment records and comply with cleaning and maintenance schedules, including lamp replacements and fixture/dimmer cleaning.
- Deputise for the Entertainment Technical Manager when required to ensure continuity of production operations.
- Maintain professional appearance and grooming guidelines at all times.
Experience & Skillset:
- At least 2 years of relevant industry experience and/or qualifications in lighting technology.
- Operational knowledge of a wide range of professional lighting and AV equipment.
- In-depth knowledge of Grand MA2 software and console range.
- Lighting programming and live performance experience in theatre or concerts, including visiting artists.
- Experience in large venues with theatre shows and live concerts; familiarity with QLab, Hippotizer, LTC and MIDI timecode is desirable.
- Good knowledge of Health & Safety procedures within a production environment.
Other Requirements:
- Must hold valid STCW certificates prior to joining.
- Must hold a full valid passport with at least 9 months validity at joining.
- Must hold a valid ENG1 or equivalent Seafarer Medical Certificate.
- Must hold relevant visas as required.
