Job Overview The Perfusionist maintains adequate circulatory and respiratory support during open heart surgery. This support includes: set up and operation of the extra corporeal circuit, set up and calibration of physiological monitoring as required for the conduct of perfusion, set up and operation of the auto transfusion equipment, calibration and operation of point of care testing equipment, as well as maintaining proper perfusion records. Qualifications Required: Completion of training at an accredited school of perfusion technology Must be certified or certified-eligible by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion Scheduling Requirements Full-Time Day shift 40 hours per week Be available for 24 hour per day CCP coverage Essential Functions Heart-lung machine pump console or equivalent for open heart surgery Assures that all components of CPB circuit are in place and functional, to include the heart-lung machine, oxygenator, tubing, reservoirs, prime solutions, safety devices and accessories Assesses the functional status of the pump console monitoring system, safety features and accessories Assesses the CPB circuit, conducts CPB in a professional manner to ensure optimal in-patient physiological status and ideal perfusion care, monitors patient parameters during CPB Administers medication under the supervision of the surgeon and anesthesiologist Controls patient temperature, blood pressure, blood gases, activated clotting time (ACT) and collects and records pertinent data Mixes medication and cardioplegia solution in a sterile manner Ensures that inventory of supplies is maintained; performs routine maintenance Autotransfusion Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump Serve as a resource person to nursing personnel Assist as needed for IABP insertion intra-operatively Assume responsibility for IABP function in the OR Transport patient on IABP to ICU Prolonged Extracorporeal Support Maintain CentriMag, AbioMed, Heart Mate, ECMO or any other assist device Assure adequate inventory of supplies Maintain Prolonged Extracorporeal Support To Include Monitoring ACT, administration of anticoagulants PRN Monitoring laboratory parameters, circulatory status and assisting nursing personnel, resident physician and attending physician in implementation and maintenance of prolonged support Assure appropriate supplies for anticipated pump head, oxygenator and/or circuit change-out PRN Benefits And Perks At RWJBarnabas Health, our market-competitive Total Rewards package provides comprehensive benefits and resources to support our employees\’ physical, emotional, social, and financial health.
