About the role

Are you energised by the idea of building something new from the ground up? As a Physical Grains Trader at RWE Supply & Trading, you’ll be at the heart of an exciting journey - helping to launch and shape a brand new trading desk within one of Europe’s most established energy trading companies. This is your opportunity to define the future of physical grains trading at RWEST, surrounded by the support of our experienced freight trading and dry bulk operations team. You’ll dive into a fast‑paced environment with the challenge of creating a resilient, future‑fit desk from scratch. This is your stage to bring innovation, explore new strategies and regions, and leverage the collective expertise of our wider team. Expect visibility, autonomy, and the chance to have a real impact from day one.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build, optimise, and expand a dedicated Physical Grains book, with an initial focus on soybeans, soymeal, and corn.
  • Work closely with market analysts to help shape and steer trading strategy.
  • Continuously assess market opportunities and trends to drive added value for the desk.
  • Actively collaborate with the Freight Trading team to unlock and optimise internal synergies.
  • Forge and strengthen working relationships with suppliers and buyers, focusing on both business development and origination.
  • Manage both physical and financial trading positions, expertly leveraging hedging strategies to maximise value and mitigate risk.

Job Requirements and Experience:

  • A proven track record of building successful physical grain trading books.
  • Deep and current network across suppliers and buyers in the grains market.
  • Demonstrable success in trading physical grains, with a comprehensive knowledge of global FOB, CFR, and CIF markets.
  • Solid expertise of spot and forward trading, market liquidity, volatility, arbitrage, swaps, counterparty credit, and contract structuring.
  • High‑level risk management skills, able to balance mitigation with spotting and seizing new opportunities.
  • Numerical agility, IT literacy, and analytical problem‑solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Courage to take decisive action and drive outcomes, coupled with resilience and ownership of results.
  • Natural collaborator who thrives in diverse teams, shares knowledge, listens actively, and seeks opportunities to empower others.

Advantageous, but not essential:

  • Additional language skills, especially in major trading regions.

What we value most is someone who continuously demonstrates courage, thrives to create impact and seeks to build trusting, collaborative relationships. So, even if you think you do not yet display all of the skills listed above we would still like to hear from you. Further we welcome applications from individuals who may not be able to commit to full‑time roles. At RWEST, finding the right person for the job is our top priority, and we are willing to explore flexible arrangements.

Your Benefits:

  • The unique opportunity to take ownership and shape a brand new trading desk in a globally established trading business.
  • Close collaboration within a diverse team of freight, cargo, and trading experts fully invested in your development.
  • Space and encouragement to be innovative and entrepreneurial, building lasting value for your career and RWE’s trading future.
  • Access to a broad network, advanced tools, and resources that empower you to deliver your best work.
  • Competitive salary & performance driven bonus plus relocation and visa support if required.
