About the role
Are you interested in a 13 month process/chemical engineering placement starting June 2026 with one of the UK’s largest energy producers? We have an exciting industrial placement opportunity at our Markinch Combined Heat and Power plant for a motivated team member with excellent interpersonal skills!
RWE Generation‘s Markinch CHP station is the largest of its type in the UK. The biomass plant produces up to 55 MW with the ability to export steam to customers, such as our state-of-the-art Energy Centre providing local district heating as part of the Glenrothes Energy Network.
During your placement, you will:
- Monitor plant performance through data analysis & interpretation and report it to partners
- Collect samples on site and undertake chemical testing as part of environmental quality monitoring
- Provide recommendations for improvements, with support from colleagues
- Implement solutions to optimise asset’s commercial performance
- Lead on a chemistry/engineering based project to improve site performance.
This placement will include project support opportunities, growing your exposure and experience internal and external to the company. You will attend courses, workshops and on the job training for your personal development.
Job Requirements and Experience
Ideally, the degree you are studying will be Chemical Engineering. However, if you are studying for a degree in a related subject, and you have an interest in chemistry and plant performance, we would love to hear from you! Your degree must include a placement year as part of it. Please include a CV and cover letter when applying.

Essential Information
The Assessment Centre will take place on Thursday 27th November 2025 face to face in Swindon at RWE UK Head Office. Accommodation will be booked on your behalf and travel subsidised by RWE. The evening prior to the Assessment Centre a meal will be held in Swindon of which you will be required to attend.
