About the role

At RWE Supply & Trading, we operate at the commercial heart of global energy markets, trading power, gas and commodities across global markets. Our Market Risk team sits at the centre of this activity, providing independent insight that enables informed, risk‑aware decision‑making.

In this role, you will take ownership within Market Risk, acting as a key partner to Trading while maintaining independent oversight. You will further build on your existing expertise by working across a range of commodity markets, such as Gas, Oil and LNG, gaining deeper exposure to how risk is measured, analysed and communicated in a fast‑moving trading environment. You will play a visible role in analysing, challenging and communicating risk to senior stakeholders.

  • Prepare and review daily and monthly P&L, position and market risk reports.
  • Analyse and clearly communicate risk exposures, P&L drivers and trading strategies to senior stakeholders, including the Board.
  • Partner closely with Trading to identify, quantify and challenge market risks within the agreed risk framework.
  • Monitor market developments and translate them into actionable insights.
  • Assess and value risk for new products, markets and trading strategies across different commodity areas.
  • Drive improvements across processes and contribute to automation and analytics initiatives.

Job requirements and experience

  • Proven experience in market risk within commodity trading, with the ability to operate independently in a front‑office‑facing environment.
  • Strong understanding of physical and/or financial trading instruments, valuation approaches, Greeks, stress testing and VaR.
  • Ability to explain P&L drivers, positions and risk exposures in a clear and structured way to stakeholders.
  • Confidence in constructively challenging Trading while maintaining strong working relationships.
  • Structured, analytical mindset with a focus on ownership and continuous improvement.
  • Advantageous, but not essential: Experience with Python, SQL or visualisation tools such as Tableau; Exposure to advanced analytics or AI use cases in a risk or trading environment.

Your benefits

  • A collegiate, pragmatic and entrepreneurial culture with strong exposure to senior leadership and trading desks.
  • Close interaction with Trading, enabling you to understand and challenge strategies.
  • International collaboration across global teams.
  • Continuous learning through diverse projects, new markets and modern analytics, automation and AI tools.
