To start as soon as possible, full time, fixed term Location: Coleg Llandrillo (North Wales) and Sofia Offshore Windfarm (Grimsby).

Requirements: 5 GCSE's (or equivalent) at 4/C or above including Science, Maths and English.

Salary: £17,510 in the 1st year, rising incrementally each year in line with internal pay scales and national minimum wage. Benefits include pension and private single medical cover.

RWE Renewables are offering the opportunity for motivated people to begin a career in renewable energy with us. This comprehensive 3 year apprenticeship scheme will enable the selected candidates to develop into technicians working on wind turbines. The first 2 years will be classroom based at a bespoke wind turbine training facility at Coleg Llandrillo, Rhyl in North Wales. The 3rd year will consist of on-site training at Sofia Offshore Wind Farm operated from Grimsby.

About The Role: We will provide a comprehensive and well supported learning programme including classroom-based learning and experience on site working with our technicians. Completion of the apprenticeship will result in an NVQ Level 3 qualification in Wind Turbine Operations and Maintenance and a Level 3 Diploma in Wind Turbine Maintenance.

Our Wind Turbine Technicians work as part of a small team for specific offshore wind farms. Qualified candidates will learn to carry out all aspects of wind turbine maintenance including scheduled, unscheduled, proactive, and troubleshooting maintenance on wind turbines. Your hard work will ensure our wind farms continue to deliver power to households and businesses. It is a rewarding job that allows you to work on highly advanced machinery in a challenging environment. Once trained you will be working at sea, in all weathers and at height, using heavy, complex mechanical and electrical equipment. You will be required to demonstrate a commitment to Health and Safety in all aspects of your work.

Initially the focus will be upon learning and developing engineering knowledge through education and training. However, examples of the tasks covered as Technicians in the longer term include:

  • Electro/Mechanical problem solving of wind turbines working in small teams at height in remote locations with user manuals as reference
  • Working with advanced mechanical, hydraulic and electrical equipment in a safe manner
  • Planning in advance the tools, spares and materials required for each job to be completed
  • Fault finding and diagnosis of wind turbine main component condition to assist in determining if site repair is possible or whether the unit requires exchange
  • Ongoing personal development and training to become a multi skilled technician that will cover all aspects of inspection, maintenance and repair of the wind turbines

Candidate Requirements: You will be keen to learn and undertake a practical role. Additionally, due to the high complexity of the role it may mean standby or on call may be required. You will be part of a team that will perform services from the Service Operation Vessel (SOV) working 14 days on, 14 days off rotation.

Job Requirements And Experience: 5 GCSE's (or equivalent) at 4/C or above including Science, Maths and English. Willing to learn and develop. Interest in engineering. Able to work at height. Able to work at sea. Willing to work shifts, staying for up to 2 weeks on a SOV. All apprentices will be expected to study full time for the first 2 years at Coleg Llandrillo, Rhyl in North Wales during term time, before being deployed at Sofia Offshore Windfarm for the 3rd year for practical experience of working on a wind farm.

Important Dates: Application closing date: 20th February 2026. Assessment Centre: 21st April 2026. Start date: August 2026.

Accommodation/Travel: Term-time accommodation will be provided with the costs of rent and utilities being paid by RWE. The cost of your commute to college each day will also be paid for unless group travel is provided by RWE. During term time, there will be a weekly set allowance for food and drink while away from home.

Travel to the assessment centre: For those candidates invited to the assessment day, all reasonable travel costs will be paid by RWE. This will be discussed with you upon invitation.

Holidays: 25 days (to be taken outside of term time), plus public holidays.
