We are establishing a central Site Reliability Engineering capability that will own, operate and continuously evolve Kubernetes across RWE Supply & Trading. Our objective is to provide development teams with a secure, reliable and highly automated Kubernetes service that enables them to focus on building applications rather than operating infrastructure. The SRE team is accountable for the complete Kubernetes service lifecycle—from architecture, engineering and service design through operations, lifecycle management, security, observability, automation and continuous improvement.

Your responsibilities:

  • As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer – Kubernetes Platform, you will be part of the team responsible for operating Kubernetes centrally across RWEST and continuously improving the platform experience for development teams.
  • Operate and improve RWEST’s central Amazon EKS platform, including day-2 operations, lifecycle management, upgrades and platform support.
  • Help provide a secure, self-service Kubernetes platform with automated guardrails so development teams can deploy and ship applications without managing the underlying infrastructure.
  • Contribute to consistent platform standards across cluster configuration, monitoring, networking, security controls and lifecycle management.
  • Support a sustainable 24x7 operational model for Kubernetes and related platform services in scope, including Kubernetes, GitHub Enterprise, Azure DevOps, JFrog and Elastic.
  • Build and maintain automation, Infrastructure as Code and reusable platform patterns that reduce manual effort and improve reliability.
  • Improve platform observability by supporting monitoring, logging, alerting and operational visibility across shared Kubernetes services.
  • Help drive stronger security and compliance through consistent guardrails, governance and automated controls.
  • Work closely with development squads to support onboarding, platform adoption and day-to-day usage of the central platform.
  • Contribute to incident response, root-cause analysis and continuous improvement of platform reliability and support quality.
  • Share knowledge, document standards and help establish the central SRE Platform Team as the accountable owner for shared platform services in scope.

Your profile:

We are looking for experienced engineers who enjoy building reliable systems, solving complex technical problems and creating services that enable other engineering teams to succeed. You are comfortable taking ownership, making technical decisions and improving systems through engineering, automation and standardisation. You enjoy building long-term solutions that are secure, maintainable and easy to operate.

Essential:

  • Extensive experience designing, operating and troubleshooting Kubernetes in production environments.
  • Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures, distributed systems and modern infrastructure.
  • Experience operating Amazon Web Services and Kubernetes-based platforms at scale.
  • Experience designing secure, resilient and highly available production environments.
  • Strong understanding of Kubernetes architecture, networking, storage, security and workload scheduling.
  • Experience managing platform lifecycle activities including upgrades, maintenance and operational readiness.
  • Strong automation mindset with Infrastructure as Code and configuration as code.
  • Experience applying software engineering principles to infrastructure and operations.
  • Experience designing reusable solutions that can be adopted consistently across multiple engineering teams.
  • Strong understanding of observability, including metrics, logs, traces and operational insights.
  • Experience integrating security, governance and compliance into technical solutions.
  • Experience supporting production environments, incident response and continuous service improvement.
  • Good understanding of modern software delivery practices and engineering automation.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting and communication skills.

Advantageous:

  • Designing and operating engineering services consumed by multiple independent teams.
  • Building secure-by-default environments with automated guardrails.
  • Creating self-service capabilities with clearly defined ownership boundaries.
  • Establishing engineering standards and reference architectures.
  • Driving standardisation while balancing flexibility and team autonomy.
  • Improving developer experience without compromising security or reliability.
  • Reducing operational complexity through automation and simplification.
  • Using data and operational metrics to drive continuous improvement.
  • Evaluating new technologies pragmatically and introducing them where they provide measurable value.
  • Mentoring engineers and fostering a strong engineering culture.
  • Working in environments where reliability, security and operational excellence are considered fundamental engineering outcomes.

What We Offer:

Joining the SRE team means becoming part of the engineering organisation responsible for one of RWEST's core technology capabilities. You will have the opportunity to influence how Kubernetes is designed, operated and continuously improved while working on complex engineering challenges at enterprise scale.

We offer the opportunity to:

  • Help establish the central Kubernetes capability across RWEST.
  • Design and evolve a modern engineering service with long-term ownership.
  • Work on large-scale cloud-native environments supporting multiple engineering teams.
  • Solve challenging problems across automation, reliability, security and operations.
  • Influence architecture, engineering standards and operational practices.
  • Work alongside experienced engineers who value ownership, collaboration and technical excellence.
  • Continuously develop your expertise while helping shape the future of cloud-native engineering across RWEST.

How to prepare for a job interview at RWE

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If RWE uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.
