Requirements: 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) at 4/C or above including Science, Maths and English.

Salary: ÂŁ17,510 in the 1st year, rising incrementally each year in line with internal pay scales and national minimum wage. Benefits include pension and private single medical cover.

RWE Renewables are offering the opportunity for motivated people to begin a career in renewable energy with us. This comprehensive 3‑year apprenticeship scheme will enable selected candidates to develop into technicians working on wind turbines. The first two years will be classroom based at a bespoke wind turbine training facility at Coleg Llandrillo, Rhyl in North Wales. The third year will consist of on‑site training at Robin Rigg Offshore Wind Farm at Workington.

About the role: We will provide a comprehensive and well‑supported learning programme including classroom‑based learning and on‑site experience with our technicians. Completion of the apprenticeship will result in an NVQ Level 3 qualification in Wind Turbine Operations and Maintenance and a Level 3 Diploma in Wind Turbine Maintenance.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Electro/Mechanical problem solving of wind turbines working in small teams at height and in remote locations, referring to user manuals.
  • Working with advanced mechanical, hydraulic and electrical equipment safely.
  • Planning in advance the tools, spares and materials required for each job.
  • Fault finding and diagnosing wind turbine main component condition to determine whether the unit can be repaired on site or requires exchange.
  • Ongoing personal development and training to become a multi‑skilled technician covering all aspects of inspection, maintenance and repair of wind turbines.

Candidate requirements: You will be keen to learn and undertake a practical role. Additionally, due to the high complexity of the role, standby or on‑call may be required.

Job requirements and experience:

  • 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) at 4/C or above including Science, Maths and English.
  • Willing to learn and develop.
  • Able to work at height.
  • Able to work at sea.
  • Willing to work shifts.
  • Must live within an hour of site.

All apprentices will study full time for the first two years at Coleg Llandrillo, Rhyl in North Wales during term time, before being deployed at Robin Rigg Offshore Wind Farm in Workington for the third year.

Application closing date: 20th February 2026. Assessment Centre: 21st April 2026. Start date: August 2026.

Accommodation/Travel: Term‑time accommodation will be provided with the costs of rent and utilities paid by RWE. The cost of daily commute to college will also be paid unless group travel is provided by RWE. During term time, there will be a weekly set allowance for food and drink while away from home. Travel to the assessment centre: All reasonable travel costs for those invited to the assessment day will be paid by RWE.

Holidays: 25 days (to be taken outside of term time) plus public holidays.
