The Engineering Manager is responsible for coordinating all O&M activities of the wind farm and optimizing its performance by managing the HV electrical system, controlling the 24/7 control and monitoring, and leading the operational support task areas. The manager will perform these duties in a proactive, flexible, cost‑effective, and safe manner, ensuring compliance with all legal and company requirements.
About the role:
- Work with the General Manager to build and maintain a professional working environment and a positive safety culture at site, as well as lead, motivate and manage the team of Operations Engineers.
- Implement HSSE, Operational and Engineering procedures to ensure compliance with legislation and RWE policy and ensure that all Safety Rules are adhered to.
- Coordinate and optimise the day‑to‑day operations of the wind farm, including marine operations with all maintenance and other third‑party activities, to ensure safe operation, Grid compliance, and to maximise the site’s commercial performance.
- Take a lead in a number of HSSE topics, including implementing safety rules and emergency planning for the whole site.
- Define the HV system O&M strategy, manage the provision of HV electrical system O&M, and take the technical and contract lead with the OFTO client.
- Manage the provision of peak‑hours monitoring and work control activities at site, 24/7 emergency cover, through the UK Central Control Room.
- Through the team of engineers at site and Technical Support, provide a range of operations support, including first line turbine maintenance support, turbine performance analysis, SCADA and IS support, provide service and safety documentation, develop and implement specific longer‑term O&M strategies, planning for major maintenance campaigns, and any projects outside of business as usual operations.
- Manage the interfaces with Grid/network operator, EGC (Trading), CEM (Commercial Energy Management), EY (Energy Yield), Insurance, marine agencies and vessel service providers, amongst others.
- Provide advice to the General Manager on operations and HV O&M issues.
- Work flexibly to provide mutual cover for the other site leadership staff, including taking delegated authority, and to manage own team to work flexibly at site and to be available for the wider offshore sites, subject to approval from the General Manager.
Job requirements and experience:
- A suitable engineering degree or equivalent, plus knowledge and experience of wind farm assets.
- A professional leader who is confident to work autonomously.
- A commitment to HSSE, with a good understanding of HSE legislation and standards, and qualified to NEBOSH certificate as a minimum.
- Proven application of new developments and best practice in an operational environment with a comprehensive understanding of operational practice and ability to develop local operational procedure.
- Proven experience of carrying out HV multi‑feed SAP and Control Person roles under the RWE OSR, preferably up to 132kV.
- Excellent planning and organising skills to include effective prioritisation and resource management.
- Proven experience in operations and a track record of initiating and delivering business improvements.
- Proven leadership qualities and a track record of leading and managing the performance of a multi‑disciplined operations team.
- Good influencing and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships.
Due to the nature of the role, you must live within an hour radius to site. An offer of employment in this role may require holding active or ability to pass National Security vetting to SC level.
