This role presents an opportunity for you to play a crucial role in shaping the Technical Safety Team within RWE Offshore Wind. As the technical arm of HSSE, the team provides expertise on all Technical (Asset & Plant / Process) Safety related topics, as well as the Global Safe System of Work application throughout all lifecycle stages. This position focuses on the Technical Safety of our Assets including Wind Turbine Generators (WTG), Substations and Foundations as well as innovative technologies. This role will be formative in shaping the core processes and activities of the team whilst communicating and embedding them within the operational offshore business. Within the role you will be responsible for ensuring lessons learned are transferred into our new Designs in Development and Construction.

About the role:

  • Actively engage with our Operational fleet to ensure Technical Safety Risks are managed effectively along the life cycle.
  • Support Development and Construction Project Engineering Teams as a Subject Matter Expert in Technical Safety/Safe by Design in the areas of WTG, Foundation and Substation design.
  • Independent management of Asset & Plant Safety related incidents and near misses in all lifecycle phases.
  • Provide flexible and responsive support for the production of Case to Operate in Operation and Construction.
  • Steer international teams in Engineering, HSE and Operations to find and execute optimal solutions for Technical Safety risk mitigation.
  • Ensure Technical Safety standards and lessons learned are adopted in RWE Offshore Wind Technical Specifications and Technical Due Diligence assessments for future Offshore assets.
  • Deliver HSE Technical Specifications for WTGs, Foundations, Substations and New Technologies/Innovations in all RWE Offshore markets whilst following up evaluations with Development and Construction projects.
  • Deliver Technical Safety/HSE Technical Due Diligence (TDD) as part of the Engineering TDD process, including Technical Innovation and Decommissioning projects.
  • Engage with Project HSE Managers to ensure Safety by Design principles are followed, documented and auditable.
  • Provide guidance and support with respect to Design Risk Assessments and Hazard Studies.
  • Provide insights into industry good practice, through participation in external forums, in order to provide innovative solutions to RWE Offshore with regards Technical Safety.

Job requirements and experience:

  • University degree or equivalent (technical apprenticeship and work experience) in an engineering discipline.
  • A number of years’ experience and technical competence in relation to design, construction or operations with regards to high-risk activities/projects.
  • Relevant experience and technical competence in relation to engineering assets including knowledge of operational working routines and processes (Offshore Wind Engineering experience is an advantage).
  • Practical Technical Safety or Asset Risk Management experience.
  • Experience in implementing Safe by Design principles and ALARP assessments.
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant national and international HSE Legislation, Standards and Guidance for Design, Construction and Decommissioning.
  • Able to demonstrate good interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt to changes, work effectively and deliver results in situations where stakeholders have conflicting interests and priorities.
  • Have solid communication skills including the ability to confidently communicate complex concepts and ideas in easily understood terms.
  • Able to produce compelling structured reports and both written and verbal presentations on complex technical topics.
  • Precise, persistent, and thorough, able to set and maintain quality standards for their work whilst able to respond flexibly to the short-term demands of the operational business.
  • Business fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to work Offshore and willing to travel upon request, including internationally, in order to support the business.
