RWE Supply & Trading GmbH
About the role
Are you looking for a legal role where you'll help shape commercial decisions rather than simply review them?
At RWE Supply & Trading (RWEST), we're looking for a commercially minded (Senior) Legal Counsel to support one of Europe's leading energy trading businesses.
This is an opportunity to move beyond traditional legal support. You'll become a trusted business partner, helping structure complex transactions, navigate new markets and influence strategic decisions from the outset.
No two days are the same, with exposure across a diverse portfolio of commodities, jurisdictions and high‑value commercial projects.
What you'll be doing
You'll work closely with commercial stakeholders to provide practical legal solutions that help drive business growth. Your responsibilities will include:
- Advising on complex commercial and trading matters across global commodities markets.
- Drafting, negotiating and reviewing a wide range of commercial agreements and project documentation.
- Supporting strategic projects from concept through to execution.
- Providing legal advice on new products, jurisdictions and market entry opportunities.
- Undertaking legal due diligence to support expansion into new markets and business areas.
- Working directly with traders, originators and senior stakeholders to solve complex commercial challenges.
- Collaborating with legal colleagues across the wider RWE Group to deliver pragmatic, business‑focused outcomes.
What we're looking for
You’ll be an English law qualified solicitor with post‑qualification experience gained within energy, commodities, infrastructure, projects or another commercially focused environment.
You’ll also bring:
- Excellent drafting, negotiation and commercial advisory skills.
- The ability to simplify complex legal issues into practical business solutions.
- Confidence working directly with senior stakeholders in a fast‑paced environment.
- A collaborative approach and a genuine desire to understand the commercial drivers behind legal decisions.
- Curiosity, sound judgement and the confidence to challenge where appropriate.
- Experience in commodities trading.
It would be advantageous if you have
- Project or transactional trade finance experience.
- Experience advising on cross‑border or emerging market transactions.
Why join RWEST?
This role offers the opportunity to become an integral part of one of Europe's most sophisticated trading organisations.
You’ll benefit from:
- A genuine opportunity to influence commercial strategy rather than simply provide legal sign‑off.
- Exposure to high‑profile international transactions and strategic growth initiatives.
- Close collaboration with traders, commercial teams and senior leadership.
- A culture that values trust, autonomy and pragmatic decision‑making.
- Flexible and hybrid working, with both full‑time and part‑time arrangements considered.
- Excellent opportunities for professional development and long‑term career progression within a global organisation.
We value diversity and therefore welcome all applications – regardless of gender, disability, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion/belief, age, sexual orientation, and identity.
