We are seeking an experienced Acoustician with a minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience to join our Noise Acoustics and Vibration team in either our Brighton, London, or Milton Keynes office as a Senior Acoustic Consultant (Scientist/Engineer).

Key Responsibilities

  • Outlining a scope of work for new projects.
  • Conducting and guiding others to perform environmental and on-site noise and vibration measurements.
  • Good working knowledge of Environmental, Building and Architectural acoustics disciplines (sound insulation, reverberation times etc).
  • Conducting environmental noise and vibration assessments autonomously.
  • Performing computer modelling using SoundPLAN, CadnaA, NoiseMap and industry standard building acoustics modelling and prediction software.
  • Designing effective noise and vibration mitigation measures.
  • Guiding small teams for larger projects.
  • Developing strong working relationships with clients.
  • Meeting and exceeding client expectations and project milestones.
  • Writing clear and concise technical project reports on large and small projects.
  • Providing advice on technical problems and following the appropriate quality control procedures.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Acoustical, Civil, Architectural Acoustics Engineering or Environmental Engineering, or a related technical discipline, preferably with focus on acoustics, noise and/or vibration.
  • 6 to 10 years of relevant work experience in Environmental and/or Building Acoustics.
  • Demonstrated experience in acoustic design, environmental noise and vibration engineering and relevant instrument operation.
  • In-depth understanding of noise guidelines, noise modelling techniques, and calculations.
  • Experience with SoundPLAN, CadnaA, NoiseMap and proficiency in the use of industry standard building acoustics modelling and prediction software.
  • Track record of developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with clients.
  • Ability to successfully meet schedules and control costs.
  • Demonstrated initiative, independent problem-solving methods/capabilities, exceptional coordination and consultation skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced consulting environment to provide practical solutions with minimal supervision, while multi-tasking in meeting deadlines.
  • Corporate membership of the Institute of Acoustics (MIOA/FIOA).
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong people and team skills.
  • Proven organizational capability, decision making and coordination skills while working on several projects.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with a strong commitment to accuracy and quality.
  • Determined and resilient, with the drive to see tasks through to successful completion.
  • Strong practical problem-solving skills, paired with sound judgment and decision-making ability.
  • Drive to continuously improve processes and enhance efficiency.
  • Ability to travel occasionally within the UK.
  • Full, clean UK driving licence.

Experience that would be considered an asset

  • Advanced level Microsoft Excel and Word capabilities.
  • Intermediate level user of Max/MSP visual programming software.
  • Intermediate level user of CadnaA, SoundPLAN, or similar software.
  • Intermediate level user of AutoCAD and reading Engineering Drawings.
  • Intermediate level user of ArcGIS, QGIS or similar GIS package.

Locations: Role can be based at either our Brighton, London or Milton Keynes office.

Salary range: £40,000 to £50,000 GBP commensurate with experience and job location.
