RWDI is seeking an Engineer to join our Wind Loading team in our Milton Keynes office. As an engineer at RWDI, you will have opportunities to broaden your skills and technical knowledge and work with experts in the field of the built environment. We will consider a Graduate Engineer from a relevant field of study or a Junior Engineer with 1 to 2 years of relevant Wind Loading experience. You will have the opportunity to work with our wind loading team in the UK whilst liaising with colleagues across the globe. Our UK team is continuously growing and developing new ways to assess the wind impact of tall and landmark buildings and structures in the UK, Europe and globally, giving you the opportunity to experience international building codes, planning guidance, and the nuances of different jurisdictions and develop your consultation skills working with design team engineers and architects.
Key Responsibilities
- Working closely with experienced and senior staff, your project work will involve assessing the impact of wind on human safety and comfort in relation to the design of new buildings.
- Planning and coordinating all technical aspects of assigned projects, including the use of desk-based estimation tools and/or wind tunnel testing.
- Solving challenging fluid flow design problems in consultation with engineering, architectural and industrial clients.
- Conducting fluid flow modelling, wind tunnel testing, data collection, analysis, post-processing, interpretation, and documentation of engineering results.
- Consulting with and answering technical questions from engineers and architects and explaining complex concepts to non-technical clients.
- Writing technical project reports that present the methodology, results and recommendations.
- Providing advice on technical problems and following the appropriate QA/QC procedures.
- Working under the guidance of senior staff with considerable latitude for the exercise of independent judgement.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- A recent graduate of a Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Civil, Mechanical, Structural or Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- A strong understanding of the fundamental physics of fluid flow.
- Able to demonstrate initiative, independent problem‑solving methods/capabilities, exceptional coordination and consultation skills.
- An ability to work in a fast‑paced consulting environment with minimal supervision while multi‑tasking to meet deadlines.
- Advanced writing skills including experience preparing detailed technical reports.
- Aptitude for developing scripts or software.
- Experience creating simplified models to simulate complex systems.
Preference will be given to candidates with the following experiences:
- 1-2 years relevant work experience in Wind Loading Engineering.
- Wind tunnel testing experience.
- Familiarity with urban or atmospheric aerodynamics through industry or coursework.
- Interpreting and working with architectural, structural, or mechanical drawings.
- Advanced level Microsoft Excel capabilities.
- Programming/scripting experience (Python, C#, VBA, C++).
- Experience using CAD software packages.
- Previous internship, industrial placement or other professional work experience in Wind Loading.
Annual Base Salary: £28,500
