At RWD, Senior Interior Designers blend creativity and meticulous attention to detail to craft interiors that resonate with luxury and innovation. Reporting to the Head of Interior Design, the Senior Interior Designer is responsible for producing market-leading interior yacht designs to delight the most exacting clients. They are responsible for leading project design team(s) creatively as well as presenting the team’s design work to clients. This includes managing both internal and external resources to ensure that every project is completed to the highest standards of yacht design, in line with RWD’s vision to be the most inspiring yacht design studio in the world.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS
- Work with the Project Principal, Head of Interior Design and Project Manager to ensure a full understanding of the design brief and design direction and creatively lead each project to successful completion.
- Take responsibility for all interior design stages of projects, coordinating other project team members, including junior designers, FF&E and external visualisers.
- Liaise and coordinate with other departments to ensure a holistic design approach and language throughout each project.
- Work closely with the Project Principal and Project Manager to ensure design work is produced in a timely manner, schedules are met, and all stakeholders are kept up to date with progress.
- Represent RWD at project meetings, including overseas visits, and hold client meetings with or without a Director or Project Principal present.
- Assist with the drafting of General Arrangement Plans.
- Develop strong interior design concepts which are unique to every project & client.
- Produce concept design sketches and 3D/2D views to illustrate designs.
- Supply clear and detailed information for visualisation.
- Provide design drawings in AutoCAD suitable for the shipyard or subcontract manufacturer to understand and work from, and to instruct others in producing interior cabin drawings in AutoCAD.
- Direct and assist with joinery design and details.
- Select hardware and produce specification lists.
- Select materials for the creation of mood boards and produce finishes schedules.
- Stay aware of current competition and abreast of industry trends and developments.
- Understand best practice in sustainable design and embed it in the project, ensuring our designs have a positive impact.
- Communicate and translate the interior design information to the client, shipyard and suppliers.
- Thorough knowledge of and compliance with RWD procedures and standards.
- Seek continuing professional development.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS
- Proven designer with extensive experience in luxury yacht interiors or other high-end sectors such as aviation or residential design.
- Exceptional, creative, passionate, and innovative designer.
- A full understanding and experience of leading the Yacht design & build process from concept to completion.
- The ability to lead and manage a project team.
- Demonstrates strategic foresight, anticipating challenges and resolving issues ahead of project impact.
- Excellent communication skills and eloquence to convey ideas with sketches and drawings etc.
- Possess a broad range of design skills from hand sketching initial concepts to fine detail.
- Extensive knowledge of materials and finishes.
- Exceptional client relationship skills with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to think on one’s feet, making project decisions to ensure client expectations are met, whilst also knowing at what point to escalate to the Project Principal or Head of Interior Design for support.
- Ability to focus on individual details whilst maintaining a good overall view of a project.
- Strong IT skills: InDesign, Photoshop, Rhino, AutoCAD, MS Office, Excel.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Keen interest in sustainable design practices and materials that result in a positive social and environmental impact.
