Rutlish is a very successful, over-subscribed comprehensive school located in the leafy suburbs of Wimbledon. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Art Technician to support our thriving Art Department.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and prepare classrooms prior to lessons, plan and schedule the use of equipment and teaching aids.
- Assist Art teachers and students with specific projects such as working on large displays, papier-mâché work, creating masks and providing examination support.
- Prepare, mount and dismantle art exhibitions and specialist classroom and corridor displays, carrying stock to and from the stockroom.
- Create and upkeep electronic Art folders for students, ensuring computer work is appropriately filed.
- Use a digital camera to photograph students and their artwork, manipulate the photographs using Photoshop for student projects.
- Photocopy student artwork, laminate and file.
- Assist Art teachers in the maintenance of their classrooms by moving equipment and student work.
- Liaise with teachers and students to ensure equipment is available to support the curriculum as and when required.
- Carry out classroom display work for the Art Department and other departments as required.
- Support art exhibitions and events.
- Control stock – order and receive deliveries, and issue materials and equipment to staff and students.
- Ensure health and safety procedures and practices are in line with statutory and institutional requirements, maintain good housekeeping and security of the area of work, including handling hazardous and dangerous materials.
- Support art trips to galleries and similar sites.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team and on your own initiative.
- Enthusiasm to support young people with art.
- Computer literate.
- Creative approach with an eye for detail.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Understanding of resources and materials required for a successful Art department.
- Confidence to deal with students, staff, parents and outside agencies.
- Ability to handle repetitive tasks.
Experience:
- Experience of working or studying in an art environment.
- Experience of dealing with conflicting demands.

Pay Scale: ME5 – Points 5-7.
Contract: Permanent, Part-time 20 hours per week (across 4-5 days) x 39 weeks per year (term time).
