Overview
The Security Officer will receive general direction from department leadership to enforce hospital policies, procedures, and regulations. The Officer will provide a safe and secure environment for the hospital’s patients, visitors and employees. The Security Officer will continuously watch for, and timely report potential safety hazards and unusual occurrences through patrols of assigned areas. The Security Officer will be responsible for the Emergency Department Visitor Management System and access control into the Emergency Department. Investigation of complaints or potential criminal conduct, assistance in restraining patients as necessary and provide protective services to patients, staff, and visitors are key elements of this role.
Minimum Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum Work Experience
- Previous experience as a Security Officer preferably in a healthcare setting is desired.
- Previous experience as a first responder is preferred.
- Previous experience in customer service or public-facing role preferred.
Required Licenses/Certifications
- Maintains a valid driver’s license.
- Completion of endorsed patient/visitor de-escalation and restraint program certification (required within 3 months of hire)
- BLS Certification through American Heart Association (required within 6 months of hire)
- OCAT Certification (required within 3 months of hire)
- PATH Certification (required within 3 months of hire)
- HERT Certification (required within 1 year of hire)
- International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety Basic certification (required within 1 year of hire)

- Requires knowledge to comply with federal, state, and local statutes and regulations.
- Willingness and ability to utilize personal vehicle for business purposes.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
- Interpersonal skills required to interact with individuals from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
- Willingness and ability to rotate duty to encompass all locations and roles.
- Must have the ability to speak, read, write and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to discretely handle confidential information.
- Must possess good communications skills and clear thinking to communicate with others.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc).
Pay Range: $19.09 – $28.22
