Summary
ONLY DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEES ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY. The Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for sample processing, test performance and for the reporting of test results for the use in diagnosis and treatment of disease as well as serving in a lead capacity to provide support, guidance and expertise to the laboratory staff in regard to technical, procedural and quality related activities across one or more of the department units: Blood Bank, Reference, Hematology, Chemistry, and Microbiology.
Minimum Education
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited Medical Technologist program

- Appropriate natural or physical science degree or sufficient coursework with an internship or training in a clinical laboratory setting which will support MLS certification requirements.
Minimum Work Experience
- Clinical Laboratory experience.
- Experience with quality improvement, quality control, equipment maintenance and laboratory safety desired.
- Experience in chemistry, hematology, blood bank, microbiology and/or phlebotomy are desirable.
Required Licenses/Certifications
- MLS certified.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Acquiring or having mastered established generalist competencies in up to two laboratory units.
- Complies with regulatory requirements, OSHA/VOSHA Standard Precautions; practices personal and hospital safety and complies with confidentiality policy.
- Ability to communicate patient information to physicians, office staff, and hospital employees and acts as clinical laboratory information resource to all customer groups.
- Ability to accurately transcribe and verbalize patient data.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and support co-workers.
- Strong written writing and documentation skills emphasizing accuracy and clarity.
Pay Range: $35.37 - $51.53
