Overview

Summary: Under the direction of Department Leadership, the staff Physical Therapist evaluates, establishes goals, plans and performs treatment, assesses treatment effectiveness, and makes discharge recommendations. In addition, the staff Physical Therapist promotes communication of patient care information among team members.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patients and establish goals; plan and perform treatment; assess treatment effectiveness; make discharge recommendations; promote communication among team members.
  • Directs treatment activities of Physical Therapy Assistants and rehabilitation techs after one year of experience (may act as student supervisor).

Minimum Education

  • Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy program with a BS degree or higher.

Minimum Work Experience

  • Previous clinical experience in hospital setting preferred.

Required Licenses/Certifications

  • Current Vermont State PT license.
  • BLS Certification through American Heart Association.

Required Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities

  • Ability to effectively communicate with physicians, allied health professionals and patient/family.
  • Demonstrates ongoing patient and family teaching as evidenced through verbal and written guidelines.
  • Ability to extract and interpret patient/family clinical information through interviewing skills.
  • Ability to resolve and identify complex cases and potential discharge problems.
  • Basic Microsoft Windows desktop application and navigation skills.
