Ruthin School is seeking a qualified School Nurse to join our friendly and professional health team. This is an important role supporting the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of pupils, ensuring they are able to participate fully in school life.

About the role

The School Nurse plays a key role in delivering a high-quality, clinically effective healthcare service within the school. The position involves care in its widest sense, supporting students' physical health, mental wellbeing and emotional needs.

Responsibilities

  • Providing treatment for minor injuries and illnesses
  • Administering medication
  • Developing individual healthcare plans
  • Monitoring ongoing health conditions
  • Working closely with parents, staff and external healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and consistent care
  • Contributing to health education across the school
  • Supporting wider wellbeing initiatives
  • Ensuring that all medical care is delivered in line with safeguarding, GDPR and school policies

Contract and benefits

  • Contract type: Permanent, term time only
  • Hours: 36 hours per week, Thursday to Saturday, 8.00am to 8.30pm (with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break)
  • Salary: £32,073 – £44,956 FTE (actual salary £22,421 – £31,427 depending on experience)
  • Start date: September 2026
  • Benefits include a competitive salary, opportunities for training and development, 50% school fee remission, free lunch during term time and a private pension through NEST.

  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration
