Health & Safety Solicitor (5+PQE) | High-Impact Health & Safety Regulatory Work
Rutherford is supporting a leading UK practice seeking an
experienced Health & Safety Solicitor
to join its growing London team.
This role offers the chance to work on serious incidents, regulatory investigations, construction safety, and property compliance for a wide range of public and private sector clients. Ideal for someone who enjoys fast-paced advisory work and the challenge of enforcement matters.
Key responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance & Governance
- Advising clients on the Health and Safety at Work Act, CDM Regulations, and sector-specific safety standards.
- Supporting organisations in building robust internal H&S governance frameworks, policies, and compliance systems.
Property & Occupier Safety
- Advising landlords, developers, asset managers, and estates teams on asbestos, legionella, fire safety, gas/electrical compliance, and workplace inspections.
- Managing interactions with enforcing authorities and assisting clients in responding to improvement or prohibition notices.
Incident Response & Enforcement
- Acting for clients under investigation or facing enforcement action by the HSE, local authorities, or Fire Authorities.
- Providing urgent crisis-management advice following serious incidents, fatalities, or workplace accidents.
- Representing clients in interviews under caution, enforcement proceedings, and inquests.
Construction & Contractor Safety
- Advising developers, contractors, and project consultants on CDM compliance, duty-holder obligations, and H&S risk allocation within project teams.
- Working alongside planning, construction, and environmental colleagues to ensure holistic project risk management.
Training & Risk Audits
- Delivering bespoke training to boards, directors, and property teams on H&S responsibilities and emergency response.
- Conducting audits to assess compliance gaps and recommending practical, commercially grounded improvements.

Qualified solicitors with strong experience in
health & safety, regulatory, construction safety, & property compliance
.
You must be confident handling of both advisory and enforcement-related work, possess the ability to build client relationships and communicate complex regulatory concepts clearly, and have a proactive, calm, and practical approach to regulatory investigations and crisis situations.
