Rutherford is partnered with a leading UK law firm recognised for its market-leading construction and development practice. The firm is seeking an experienced Construction Lawyer (4-5PQE) to join its London team, advising high-profile clients across the full lifecycle of major real estate and infrastructure projects.
You’ll work closely with a national and international team of construction specialists, advising developers, investors, funders, and public bodies on complex, high-value developments across housing, regeneration, life sciences, and commercial sectors.
Key responsibilities
- Advise clients across the entire project lifecycle—from procurement strategy and contract drafting through to delivery, completion, and asset management.
- Draft, negotiate, and finalise construction contracts, consultant appointments, collateral warranties, bonds, guarantees, and development agreements.
- Advise on procurement and delivery models including traditional, design & build, partnering, and alliancing structures.
- Support developers and investors on construction risk allocation, contract structure, and exit strategies within transactions and joint ventures.
- Provide proactive risk management and dispute-avoidance advice, assisting where needed in adjudication, mediation, or litigation.
- Advise on modern methods of construction (MMC), modular construction, and evolving building safety regulations.
- Work with a diverse client base across both the public and private sectors, including local authorities, housing associations, and developers.

- Strong experience in non-contentious construction law, ideally advising on procurement, contract negotiation, and project delivery.
- Excellent technical drafting skills and familiarity with major standard form contracts (JCT, NEC, etc.).
- Ability to deliver commercial, solutions-focused advice to senior stakeholders across multiple sectors.
- Confidence managing complex, multi-party projects and engaging with clients directly.
- A collaborative mindset, enthusiasm for large-scale development work, and a genuine interest in the built environment.
