Overview

Our client is a highly regarded US law firm with 17 offices in major business hubs including London, the US, Asia, the Middle East and continental Europe. Their London office serves as a central hub for international matters, advising financial institutions, corporatesand sponsors on a wide range of complex cross-border transactions, investigations and regulatory issues.

This opportunity is for a Counsel to join the London-based Antitrust & International Competition group, a team recognised for handling some of the most challenging and high-profile transactional antitrust and foreign investment mandates in the market.

The Role

The incoming Counsel will be a key figure within the team, focusing on non-contentious antitrust and competition work. You will act on market-leading M&A and restructuring matters, advising clients across industries including technology, private equity, financial services and energy.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with corporate partners and provide transactional competition input across significant cross-border deals.
  • Lead and manage merger control processes at both UK and EU levels, as well as coordinate multi-jurisdictional filings.
  • Engage directly with competition regulators including the CMA, European Commission and other key authorities.
  • Advise on foreign direct investment/national security reviews and their implications for strategic and financial investors.
  • Play a leading role on client calls, providing commercial and practical advice in a clear, confident manner.

Requirements

  • Qualified to practice law in England & Wales
  • 5–9 years’ PQE in competition/antitrust gained at a leading US, Magic Circle or Silver Circle firm.
  • Strong track record in transactional antitrust matters, particularly within M&A and restructurings.
  • Experience managing merger control approvals and foreign investment reviews across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Direct exposure to clients in financial institutions, PE/funds, technology, and/or energy is highly valued.
