A respected public sector organisation is seeking a Management Accountant to provide high-quality financial support across its services. This role is central to ensuring financial compliance, supporting strategic decision-making and contributing to the preparation of statutory accounts and returns. The successful candidate will act as a finance business partner, supporting service managers and senior leadership with financial analysis, forecasting and performance monitoring. This hybrid role will involve working 2 days per week in the Alloa office.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a finance business partner to service areas, providing analysis to support improvement and change
- Lead and support a small finance team
- Assist services in preparing accurate forecasts and monitoring performance against budget
- Investigate and report on budget variances and savings achievement
- Provide financial advice and costing information to inform decision-making and business planning
- Contribute to financial performance reports and business cases
- Assist in the preparation of service revenue budgets and final accounts
- Complete statutory and other financial returns
- Develop performance indicators and benchmarking analysis
- Support medium and long-term financial planning
- Participate in Best Value reviews within services and accountancy
- Collaborate with the Corporate Accountancy Team on statutory Annual Accounts
Essential Experience
- Professionally qualified accountant or part qualified finalist
- Proven experience in a similar financial role
- Strong understanding of financial reporting standards and public sector accounting codes
- Experience preparing statutory accounts and returns
Skills & Attributes
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial staff
- Strong organisational and time management abilities
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Advanced spreadsheet skills and familiarity with financial ledger systems
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Flexible, adaptable and committed to continuous professional development
