Rutherford Cross is delighted to be working with a well-established business headquartered in Glasgow to appoint an experienced Senior Credit Controller. Operating in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, the business places real importance on cash flow, risk management and strong customer relationships, with credit control sitting at the heart of financial performance.
This opportunity will suit a confident, commercially minded credit professional who enjoys ownership, visibility and working in an environment where credit control is genuinely business-critical.
The Role
This is a hands-on, senior-level credit control position requiring strong organisation, proactivity and the confidence to manage a diverse customer base. You will work closely with both finance and sales teams, building effective working relationships while taking responsibility for your own ledger. The role offers autonomy, variety and the chance to make a tangible impact through effective cash collection, risk awareness and disciplined processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Owning relationships with a broad range of customers, chasing payments by phone and email and keeping cash flow on track
- Keeping bad debt to an absolute minimum and ensuring account issues are dealt with promptly
- Working closely with sales managers to resolve customer queries quickly and keep accounts moving
- Identifying customers who may be starting to experience difficulties, escalating issues early and working with management to agree next steps
- Setting up customer accounts and assessing appropriate credit terms
- Reconciling customer accounts and maintaining accurate, up-to-date records
- Accurately allocating cash and posting receipts onto the accounting system
- Reviewing company systems to ensure all sales are being captured correctly
- Supporting the wider finance team and providing cover for colleagues during periods of leave
Candidate Profile
To be considered, you will be an experienced Credit Controller with a strong track record in fast-paced environments and the confidence to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
Experience includes:
- Significant experience in a high-volume credit control role
- A professional, confident and commercially aware approach to customer interaction
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, with advanced Excel highly advantageous
- Previous experience using Sage accounting systems
- Excellent numeracy, communication and relationship-building skills
