Financial Accountant (12-Months FTC)

At Rutherford Briant we are working with a respected and forward-thinking organisation that prides itself on delivering quality, accuracy, and insight across its finance function. They’re now looking to appoint a Financial Accountant – a key role that combines technical accounting, financial reporting, and continuous improvement to support the organisation’s growth and stability.

As Financial Accountant, you will…

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and internal deadlines
• Manage the general ledger and lead the month-end and year-end close processes
• Oversee balance sheet reconciliations, investigating variances and implementing corrective actions where needed
• Support the budgeting and forecasting cycles with analysis and commentary to inform business decisions
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and external audit requirements
• Assist with tax preparation and statutory filings, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
• Monitor cash flow, working capital, and liquidity to maintain financial health
• Identify opportunities to enhance reporting, streamline processes, and improve system efficiency

As Financial Accountant, you will need…

• A recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) or be part-qualified and progressing towards completion
• Proven experience in a similar Financial Accountant or Management Accountant role
• A strong grasp of accounting principles and standards (IFRS or UK GAAP)
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail
• Strong Excel capability and experience using accounting or ERP systems (such as Sage, Xero, or SAP)
• The ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders
• A proactive, collaborative approach with the confidence to challenge and drive improvement
