At Rutherford Briant, we’re partnering with a growing SME business based in Basildon. As the business continues to scale, they are looking to appoint a Management Accountant to take ownership of day-to-day finance, provide commercial insight, and support informed decision-making across the business. This is a hands-on role, ideal for a Management Accountant who enjoys working in a fast-paced SME environment and being close to operations.
As a Management Accountant, you will:
- Produce monthly management accounts with clear commentary and variance analysis
- Own the month-end close process, including accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Prepare budgets, forecasts, and cashflow projections, supporting business planning
- Maintain strong financial controls and ensure accuracy across the ledger
- Partner closely with directors and operational teams to provide meaningful financial insight
- Analyse performance, margins, and costs to support profitability and growth
- Assist with statutory accounts preparation and liaise with external accountants and advisors
- Support process improvements as the business continues to develop its finance function
As a Management Accountant, you will need:
- Proven experience in a Management Accountant or similar role within an SME environment
- Strong understanding of management accounting and end-to-end month-end processes
- Solid balance sheet knowledge and confidence owning reconciliations
- Strong Excel skills and the ability to analyse and interpret financial data
- A proactive, adaptable mindset with the confidence to work autonomously
- Excellent communication skills, comfortable working directly with senior stakeholders
- Part-qualified, fully qualified (ACA / ACCA / CIMA), or qualified by experience
