I am currently recruiting for a Head of Commercial Operations to join a well-established and growing engineering business. Based on‑site in Bury St Edmunds, this is a senior, client‑facing role offering the opportunity to lead operational delivery, manage contracts, and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.
Responsibilities
- Oversee day‑to‑day operational delivery across multiple projects, ensuring efficiency, safety, and compliance.
- Lead a team of contract managers and operational staff, providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development.
- Develop and implement operational strategies, processes, and systems to drive continuous improvement and sustainable growth.
- Manage commercial operations, including contract management, bid and tender processes, and client negotiations.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to client specifications.
- Establish and monitor KPIs to measure operational performance, productivity, and client satisfaction.
- Maintain strict adherence to health, safety, environmental, and quality standards across all projects.
- Collaborate closely with commercial, sales, and finance teams to align operational capacity with business development goals.
- Prepare and deliver operational performance reports and improvement plans to the executive team, reporting directly to the MD.
Requirements
- Must be degree qualified in engineering or transferable fields.
- Proven experience in commercial operations, contract management, and leadership within construction, engineering, or infrastructure sectors.
- Demonstrable experience managing bid and tender processes.
- Strong knowledge of site‑based operational delivery, including resource planning, supply chain coordination, and project oversight.
- Ability to manage large‑scale, complex operations and multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Excellent leadership, problem‑solving, and organisational skills.
- Strong understanding of compliance, health & safety, and quality management standards.
