Are you a newly qualified accountant considering your first move from practice into commerce and industry?
Rutherford Briant is recruiting a Financial Accountant for a major international organisation in Ipswich. This is an excellent opportunity to take the technical knowledge you have developed in practice and apply it within a complex, commercially focused business.
You will join an experienced technical accounting and statutory reporting team responsible for a number of UK entities. Rather than moving into a narrow reporting role, you will gain exposure across statutory accounts, technical accounting, audit, financial controls and different areas of the wider finance function.
It should particularly appeal to someone who enjoys the technical side of accounting but now wants to work inside a business, build relationships beyond finance and see how accounting decisions are applied in practice.
What will you be doing?
Working closely with the Financial Reporting Team you will:
- Help prepare statutory accounts under UK GAAP and IFRS
- Work with external auditors to achieve clearance within agreed timescales
- Research new and emerging accounting matters and help determine the appropriate treatment
- Prepare technical accounting papers covering key audit and reporting topics
- Provide clear technical guidance to colleagues across finance and the wider business
- Review balance sheet reconciliations and support the development of strong financial controls
- Build relationships across a large and varied organisation
- Develop your understanding of a complex and highly regulated commercial environment
What are we looking for?
This could be an ideal first move into industry for someone who:
- Is ACA or ACCA qualified, or approaching qualification
- Has trained within an accountancy practice, ideally with experience of audit and statutory accounts
- Has a sound understanding of UK accounting standards and some exposure to IFRS
- Enjoys researching and explaining technical accounting matters
- Can communicate confidently with colleagues, auditors and senior stakeholders
- Is organised, inquisitive and comfortable taking ownership of their work
- Wants to continue developing technically while gaining broader commercial experience
Previous financial services or insurance experience would be useful, but it is not essential if you have strong technical foundations and are keen to learn.
Rutherford Briant is passionate about equity, diversity, and inclusion. We seek individuals from the widest talent pool and encourage underrepresented talent to apply to vacancies with us. We are committed to recruitment processes that are fair for all, regardless of background and personal characteristics.
