Immediate contract opportunities are available for experienced Mechanical Engineers to join a busy heavy plant environment. These roles are suited to engineers who are confident working in demanding manufacturing settings and can quickly add value through planned maintenance and reactive repair work.
This is a hands-on mechanical maintenance role focused on keeping heavy plant machinery operating safely, reliably and efficiently.
Shift: Monday to Friday days - 42 hours per week
The Role: As an experienced Mechanical Engineer or Mechanical Fitter you will be responsible for planned preventative maintenance and reactive mechanical repairs on heavy plant machinery. You will work as part of the engineering team to maintain equipment performance, reduce downtime and support safe, efficient production.
- Maintain equipment reliability through planned preventive maintenance and routine inspections.
- Service and maintain mechanical systems (mixers, conveyors, pumps, bearings, etc.) to prevent breakdowns.
- Support continuous improvement (CI) initiatives to reduce downtime and improve plant efficiency.
- Assist with predictive maintenance tasks (vibration monitoring, thermography, visual inspections).
- Identify and report recurring mechanical issues and recommend long-term solutions.
- Maintain accurate CMMS records for all PPM and CI work.
- Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to implement improvements.
- Provide holiday and sickness cover for the shift maintenance team.
- Work safely in demanding concrete plant environments, following all safety procedures (LOTO, PPE, H&S).
Requirements - what we are looking for:
- Time served apprenticeship.
- Qualified NVQ level 3 minimum.
- Mechanical maintenance skills with experience on plant equipment (mixers, conveyors, pumps, bearings).
- Ability to carry out preventive maintenance tasks effectively and accurately.
- Hands-on mechanical fault-finding and repair capabilities.
- Experience using CMMS for recording maintenance tasks.
- Strong safety awareness (LOTOTO, PPE, safe systems of work).
- Good teamwork and communication skills.
