Organization Context
This role sits within a large, globally recognized higher education institution with a complex, multi-campus estate in Central and East London. The organization manages a diverse portfolio of academic, research, office and residential buildings, supporting tens of thousands of students and staff.
This role is focused on property strategy and stakeholder engagement so that we can work with the campus to drive estates improvement, efficiency, and increased utilization. NOTE: It is not a construction or a facilities role.
Purpose of the Role
The Senior Estates Strategy Manager will play a key strategic role in shaping and implementing a long-term estates vision. The postholder will help drive a coordinated, data-led and customer-focused approach to space planning, property strategy and estate optimization, ensuring the estate supports future growth, sustainability and an enhanced campus experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Co-lead the development and delivery of a long-term estates and space strategy aligned to institutional priorities
- Drive a strategic, holistic approach to estate planning and utilization across a large and complex property portfolio
- Develop and implement space strategies, policies, and norms to improve efficiency and consistency
- Lead early-stage feasibility, scoping and strategic briefing for estate projects
- Produce clear strategic and outline business cases and guide them through governance processes
- Analyze and present space utilization and performance data to inform senior decision-making
- Work closely with delivery teams to ensure smooth transition from feasibility to design and implementation
- Support consolidation, rationalisation and lease exit strategies where appropriate
- Engage and influence a wide range of internal stakeholders including academic, professional services and operational teams
- Promote innovative approaches to space use, including hybrid working and new models of occupancy
- Contribute to continuous improvement through post-project reviews and best practice development
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Strong stakeholder engagement, influencing and negotiation skills
- Excellent analytical capability with experience presenting complex data clearly
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across functions and senior levels
- Experience delivering high-quality, customer-focused strategic outcomes
Desirable:
- Experience in estates strategy, space management or property planning
- Background in project, programme or change management
- Commercial awareness including budgeting and financial analysis
- Degree-level education and/or relevant professional qualification
