We are seeking an experienced and strategic communications leader to join a world-leading higher education institution as Head of Strategic Communications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deputise for the Director of Strategic Communications and support delivery of strategic priorities.
  • Lead and manage the Strategic Communications team, ensuring high-quality delivery and effective resource planning.
  • Develop and oversee strategic communications plans for major institutional campaigns and initiatives.
  • Drive audience insight, segmentation, persona development, and data-informed decision making.
  • Lead communications monitoring, evaluation, performance measurement, and reporting frameworks.
  • Support the development and implementation of strategic communications best practice across the wider communications community.
  • Work closely with senior communications leaders across public affairs, brand, marketing, internal communications, events, and publications.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships across a complex organisation and influence at senior levels.
  • Lead horizon scanning and strategic insight activities to identify emerging opportunities and risks.
  • Contribute to communications innovation, including AI strategy development and culture change initiatives.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and line management to direct reports.

Requirements

  • Significant experience in strategic communications, corporate communications, public affairs, marketing communications, or a related field.
  • Proven experience developing and delivering large-scale communications strategies and campaigns.
  • Strong understanding of communications measurement, evaluation, audience insight, and data analytics.
  • Experience managing teams and developing high-performing communication professionals.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively within a large, complex organisation.
  • Experience delivering organisational change, communications transformation, or continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Experience within higher education, public sector, research, membership, healthcare, government, or similarly complex environments is advantageous.
