Russell Publishing has an exciting opening for a Senior Editor to join our Content team, to lead and drive the growth and delivery of content for our international brand – European Pharmaceutical Review. The company's science division comprises three brands - European Pharmaceutical Review, Drug Target Review and New Food. All have expanded rapidly in the past two years with web traffic and visitors more than doubling. The brands have a number of channels, including but not limited to web, print, multimedia, reports, events and newsletters.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for defining, developing and leading the multi‑platform content strategy for European Pharmaceutical Review. Ensuring content quality meets the highest editorial standards to drive engagement and reinforce brand credibility to our audience of technical decision makers within the pharmaceutical industry. Working closely with sales teams on client pitches and providing in‑house market expertise to shape client solutions as a trusted advisor. International travel is a requirement to remain embedded within the industry, tracking developments and guiding the brand in line with industry change.

Responsibilities

  • Be a brand ambassador within the industry and maintain a wide, accurate network of contacts.
  • Define and lead multi‑platform content strategy—including web, print, multimedia, reports.
  • Develop and deliver event programmes, including securing keynote speakers and managing content for large live events.
  • Commission, edit, and oversee all brand content, ensuring high quality, expert contributors, and grow print and digital audiences.
  • Maintain a digital‑first approach by driving daily news output and weekly features that grow reach, users, SEO performance, and subscribers.
  • Produce and manage the annual content calendar to support sales, enhance engagement, and drive subscriber and revenue growth.
  • Collaborate with commercial and marketing teams on pitches, client solutions, and using data insights to improve content.
  • Ensure the delivery of strategic direction for the team, including OKR’s & KPIs, execution, reporting, tracking/monitoring and continuous evolution of objectives.
  • Represent the brand at events in the UK and worldwide.
  • Manage strategic partnerships with third parties.

Qualifications

A minimum of 5 years’ experience at Editor level in a pharmaceutical and business-to-business publishing environment is essential. A scientific degree is not essential but would be advantageous.

Required Skills

  • 5+ years’ experience in developing and managing content strategy for a B2B pharmaceutical brand/title.
  • Proven B2B editorial experience, producing insight-driven journalism.
  • 5+ years’ experience in people management, development of people and ensuring high-performance.
  • Excellent communication and organisation skills.
  • Strong proofing/subbing skills/attention to detail.
  • Excellent IT skills – Microsoft Office is essential, including Word and Excel.
  • Adobe creative packages would be advantageous but not essential.

Preferred Skills

  • Degree in a scientific subject, journalism, communications or a related field, or related work experience.
