Department Risk & Compliance
Russell-Cooke is an expanding and energetic firm of solicitors with offices in Central London, Putney and Kingston. The firm has over 260 fee earners and support staff working across a range of specialist departments. The Risk and Compliance department develops and maintains the firm's Risk Management policies and procedures and ensures that they are implemented and adhered to across the firm. They also provide guidance, updates, general advice and where necessary training on regulatory and compliance issues.
The Director of Risk and Compliance is seeking a full time assistant (5+ years PQE) to assist the team with the management of complaints and claims received from clients and any associated litigation, and also to provide high level administrative and technical support to the team.
The successful candidate will be bright, energetic and enthusiastic. The role requires a team player who is organised, has the ability to work under pressure yet has good attention to detail. A professional approach along with excellent communication skills and discretion will be necessary since the role will involve dealing with employees, partners, solicitors and external agencies. Excellent IT skills and previous relevant experience and understanding of risk and compliance processes are essential.
The main duties include but are not limited to:
- Supporting the Risk & Compliance team in ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory and professional obligations.
- Assisting with the management of professional indemnity insurance claims and notifications and insurer relationships and client complaints.
- Liaising with insurers, brokers and panel solicitors and the Legal Ombudsman.
- Assessing potential exposure and advising on mitigation strategies.
- Managing notifications under the firm's PII arrangements.
- Monitoring claims trends and preparing management information.
- Maintaining and monitoring the firm's claims, complaints and risk registers.
- Advising on conflicts, confidentiality, undertakings and professional conduct issues.
- Supporting the COLP and wider Risk & Compliance functions.
- Assisting with data protection and confidentiality matters if required.
- Delivering and supporting risk and compliance training across the Firm.
- Keeping up to date with developments in professional regulation, risk management and legal practice.
Attributes/experience
- Be a qualified solicitor or lawyer with minimum 5+ years post-qualification experience.
- Have professional indemnity, claims, and regulatory or risk management experience, ideally gained within a law firm environment.
- Possess a strong understanding of SRA Standards and Regulations.
- Have knowledge of data protection, privacy and confidentiality obligations.
- Demonstrate excellent drafting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Be able to communicate confidently with partners and senior stakeholders.
- Have strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Be commercially aware and capable of providing practical, risk-based advice.
- Possess excellent attention to detail and sound judgement.
