We are looking for a commercial real estate Associate (1 - 4 years PQE) to join Russell‑Cooke’s Charity & not-for-profit department, providing support exclusively to not-for-profit organisations. The team of 18 lawyers is one of the leading charity practices, highly rated by both Legal 500 and Chambers. The firm is also ranked as a Top 100 law firm by The Lawyer.

Our clients include some of the most prominent fundraising charities as well as medium‑sized and start‑up charities, heritage charities, social enterprises, individual philanthropists and corporate foundations. The work would be varied and would suit someone with commercial property experience who is enthusiastic about developing new areas of expertise and working within the charity sector, or someone who already has charity property experience.

The role is for a junior to mid‑level Associate to work on a wide range of commercial property matters for charity, not‑for‑profit and social business clients. This is an opportunity to take on a broad and varied role which will include freehold and leasehold disposals and acquisitions, portfolio management work, development, support of corporate transactions such as mergers and incorporations, and advising on technical charity property issues.

Specific experience advising charities is not a prerequisite, but a real interest in the charity sector and a willingness to learn and engage in business development is essential. The role is based in Putney, London but with the opportunity to work from our Holborn office.

Qualifications, skills and expertise

  • Strong academic record and experience of commercial real estate work in a national or London law firm.
  • Some experience of working with third sector organisations or a strong interest in the sector.
  • Experience in advising on Charities Act compliance in property transactions is desirable, but not essential.
  • The role would suit someone 1 - 4 years post‑qualification, but we are open to applications from anyone with a genuine interest, including people with relevant in‑house experience, and people who have come to law as a second career.

All lawyers in our team are given support to develop their career and are involved in shaping department strategy.

Your career development

Russell‑Cooke’s lawyers are rounded professional advisers with strong commercial awareness and a commitment to exceeding client expectations. All our lawyers benefit from our cohort‑based career development programme. We understand the importance of building an internal network and have developed this excellent cohort programme to allow our lawyers to work together across practice areas and share their knowledge, experiences and networks. At each stage of your career, and as you move through the cohorts, a bespoke training programme will be provided to support you with your development and progression.

Salary and benefits

We offer competitive salaries and generous benefits, including private healthcare. For more information or to apply please follow the link on the portal. We welcome direct applications. If you would like any further information about the firm please contact a member of the HR team.

We have a diverse workforce and aim to attract high calibre applicants that reflect the demography of our geographical location and client base.
