About The Role: As an Occupational Therapy Assistant, your role is to support the Occupational Therapist and wider multidisciplinary team in delivering therapeutic programmes to service users with complex mental health needs. You will work directly with service users on a 1:1 basis and in groups, supporting interventions that promote independence, daily living skills, and meaningful activity. This includes helping to plan, deliver, and review activities, maintaining accurate records, and contributing to the overall therapeutic environment. The role requires a calm and consistent approach, particularly when working with individuals who may display behaviours that challenge. You will work under supervision but are expected to take responsibility for your tasks, use initiative, and contribute to the wider team.

About You: You are reliable, patient, and able to build professional relationships with people who may have complex needs or present with challenging behaviour. You understand the importance of structure, boundaries, and consistency within a therapeutic environment. You are confident working as part of a team, but also able to work independently when required. You communicate clearly, keep accurate records, and take responsibility for your role. Previous experience in a care, mental health, or forensic setting is beneficial, but your attitude and approach are just as important.

About The Service: Mill Lodge Hospital is a specialist hospital providing care and rehabilitation for adults aged 18 and over with complex mental health needs, including those detained under the Mental Health Act. The hospital has four wards, each designed to provide a safe and therapeutic environment. The multidisciplinary team includes nursing, psychiatry, psychology, occupational therapy, and social work, working together to deliver person-centred, recovery-focused care.
