Rushcliffe Borough Council is a local government authority serving the West Bridgford area of Nottingham. We provide essential public services to our community, including housing and homelessness support. Our Housing Options Team delivers frontline advice and assistance to households facing housing difficulties, working to prevent homelessness and meet our statutory obligations under homelessness legislation.
Housing Options Advisor - The Role:
You will be a key member of our Housing Options Team, providing comprehensive housing advice to people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Working directly with households, you will carry out detailed assessments, develop personalised housing plans, make statutory homelessness decisions, and liaise with partner organisations to prevent homelessness. You will also participate in an out-of-hours housing emergencies rota covering evenings, weekends and bank holidays, for which standby payments are made.
Housing Options Advisor - Key Responsibilities:
- Provide housing options advice and actively promote homelessness prevention to vulnerable households - Investigate homelessness applications and make statutory decisions in line with homelessness legislation - Carry out detailed assessments and develop personalised housing plans for clients - Work with private landlords, support providers and statutory agencies to achieve positive housing outcomes - Contribute to the delivery of the Council's Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy - Manage a varied caseload while maintaining high-quality casework standards
Housing Options Advisor - You:
- Demonstrate significant experience in homelessness, housing advice or related frontline work - Have proven experience of working with vulnerable people in complex situations - Possess in-depth knowledge of homelessness legislation including Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 - Show excellent communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills - Can manage varied workloads and make sound decisions under pressure - Hold up-to-date knowledge of housing and tenancy legislation
