Overview

I build and scale great Engineering teams within the Ruby on Rails market and have worked with some of London\’s fastest growing businesses. An Engineering Manager is needed to join one of the UK\’s leading E-commerce & Gifting businesses, to lead and manage a brand new squad comprised of Backend Developers and testers. This is a newly formed position for someone who has worked their way from a hands-on developer, with strong technical expertise, to someone who manages and leads a team of Engineers. The ideal candidate will not be hands-on, but possess a foundation in technical concepts, best coding practices, system design, and be responsible for managing and inspiring their squad to achieve performance metrics. You can have a background in any language (Python, Java, .Net, etc) although the squad will be formed of Ruby Developers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a brand new squad of Backend Developers and testers.
  • Create a technical strategy and budget proposal; implement and monitor performance metrics.
  • Coordinate internal teams to ensure project timelines and budgets are met.
  • Communicate engineering goals with the engineering staff and stakeholders.
  • Coach, support, and develop the engineering team.

Qualifications

  • Ideally a Computer Science degree or related discipline.
  • Prior hands-on programming experience in any OOP language.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a Leadership / Engineering Manager role.
  • Strong background on product-focused businesses.
  • Ability to create a technical strategy and manage budgets and metrics.
  • Experience in coordinating cross-team efforts to deliver on timelines.
