Based at Chertsey Depot but with the flexibility to support across the whole service, including operating in Surrey Heath Borough Council. This is an exciting opportunity to join Runnymede Borough Council as we continue our positive work supporting vulnerable residents through the Meals at Home Driver role within our Community Services team across the Runnymede and Surrey Heath Community Services Partnership. As a Meals at Home Driver, you will play a vital part in helping residents remain safe, well and independent in their own homes by delivering freshly prepared meals and undertaking wellbeing checks. The Meals at Home Driver role is rewarding, community‑focused and makes a real difference every day.
What you will be doing
- Delivering hot meals and tea packs to residents along a planned delivery route within agreed time windows.
- Carrying out informal welfare checks and reporting any concerns promptly to a supervisor.
- Loading meals onto council vehicles and ensuring the correct meals are delivered to each customer.
- Driving a council‑owned vehicle safely and professionally, carrying out basic daily vehicle checks.
- Checking and recording food temperatures in line with food safety procedures.
- Communicating clearly and courteously with customers, colleagues and supervisors.
- Maintaining cleanliness of vehicles and delivery equipment at all times.
- Supporting service delivery at weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis.
This role also offers the opportunity to be involved in the continued development of the Meals at Home service as it supports increasing numbers of residents across the borough.

About You
We are looking for a reliable and community‑focused individual to join our team who can provide a safe, respectful and caring service to residents. We are looking for exceptional candidates with a range of skills and experience, including:
- Experience of working with members of the public or service users
- Clear verbal communication skills and the ability to follow written instructions
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
- Full UK driving licence and confidence driving a van (D1 entitlement is desirable)
- An understanding of the importance of safeguarding and confidentiality
- Ability to undertake physical aspects of the role, including getting in and out of a vehicle frequently
- Willingness to undertake required training, including food safety, manual handling and first aid
