We’re working with a respected contractor to recruit a Materials Buyer for their Southern Region. The company has a long history of delivering marine projects along the South Coast, from Kent to Devon, helping to protect shorelines, improve ports, strengthen sea defences, and support the region’s water infrastructure. With several new projects starting between now and next spring, they have a strong pipeline of work confirmed through 2026.
The Buyer will support the procurement team to manage supplier performance, producing cost analysis and coordinating deliveries.
It is essential you have experience of working in a heavy civil engineering environment with specialist suppliers to build lasting, reliable relationships.
Buyer Duties:- Maintain approved supplier lists and supplier performance records.
- Support QHSE with supplier audits and compliance.
- Ensure suppliers operate under agreed commercial trading terms where timescales permit.
- Issue material enquiries based on drawings, specifications and project plans; analyse and evaluate supplier quotations for tenders and live projects.
- Place orders for materials, services, plant and equipment in line with procurement schedules.
- Extract and coordinate material requirements from tender and contract documentation.
- Arrange transfers of materials and plant between sites and head office as required.
- Drive efficiencies, consolidate purchasing and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Deliver market-competitive procurement solutions that achieve best overall value.
- Distribute order confirmations and procurement information to sites and stakeholders.
