We are working with a respected Southampton-based utilities contractor that is experiencing a period of growth and is now looking to strengthen their commercial team at management level.
This role is responsible for overseeing and managing the commercials across various business delivery work streams, including leading the commercial function, ensuring robust contract and commercial management, and managing a team of Quantity Surveyors. This is a great opportunity for a Managing QS who enjoys developing and strengthening relationships with clients and who wants to grow into the role of Commercial Manager. Responsibilities:
- Reporting to the Head of Commercial and working closely with the Finance Director
- Overseeing all commercial aspects of projects across the business including frameworks, ensuring delivery meets target margins
- Managing contracts across the business, including NEC, JCT, and bespoke agreements
- Working in a client-facing role, ensuring effective commercial project delivery and relationship development
- Leading and managing the commercial team, supporting development and professional growth
- Preparing and delivering monthly management reports and accounts
- Implementing and improving processes
- Overseeing applications for payment, invoicing, and financial reporting
- Managing post-contract change control processes, maximising value from variations and design changes
- Supervising costing procedures, driving improvements in processes
- Supporting procurement activities and management of supply chain
- Assisting with tender processes for new contracts and frameworks
- Working collaboratively with the delivery teams to ensure alignment of commercial objectives
- Supporting the development and implementation of business processes, systems, and procedures
Background/Skills:
- Qualification in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management or by experience
- Strong commercial and contract management expertise (NEC suite, JCT)
- Leadership and team management capability
- Excellent financial and analytical skills; manage costs and identify improvements
- Strong communicator
- Proficient in reporting and commercial systems
- Competent IT skills (MS Office/commercial software)
