Job Description

Job Title: HGV Crane Driver and Operator

Location: Yorkshire into Greater Manchester (including Barnsley and Rochdale)
Contract Type: 6-Month Fixed Term
Salary: Β£16.63 per hour PAYE
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM – 3:00 PM

About the Role

We're seeking a skilled and safety-conscious HGV Crane Driver and Operator to support our Highways Lighting and Grid operations. This hands-on role involves driving, crane operation, excavation, and installation/removal of street lighting and signage assets. You'll be part of a dynamic team committed to maintaining infrastructure across key regions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate lorry-mounted cranes for installation and removal of lighting assets.
  • Drive HGV vehicles to transport equipment and materials.
  • Perform excavation work for joint holes, columns, and signage.
  • Assist with installation and decommissioning of street lighting, bollards, and signs.
  • Safely use tools and equipment in line with company procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of site work and ensure PPE compliance.
  • Support skilled operatives and contribute to a safe working environment.
  • Follow all Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality policies.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • HGV Class 2 Licence – required to drive specialist vehicles.
  • CPCS Lorry Loader Certification – essential.
  • NRSWA Units LA 01 to 08 + 08 – essential.
  • NVQ Level 2 in Highways Electrical Work – essential.
  • Experience in excavation and manual handling.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or in a team.
  • High level of manual dexterity and attention to detail.

Desirable Qualifications

  • G39, HESA 210/214 Safe Isolation Certification
  • MEWP CPCS Qualification
  • CSCS Accreditation via HERS
  • First Aid Certification
