We are looking for a reliable and skilled Civils Mate / HGV Driver to support highways and electrical infrastructure works delivered for a leading UK utility client. This is a hands-on role involving excavation, reinstatement, and the safe operation of HGVs and plant, working both independently and as part of a wider site team. You will play a key role in supporting highways lighting and electrical installation projects across a broad geographic area, ensuring all work is delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out excavation works in the highway environment
- Assist with the installation of highways electrical furniture
- Drive, load, and unload HGV/HIAB vehicles safely and efficiently
- Supervise vehicle loading to ensure materials are secure and minimise damage
- Complete hot and cold lay reinstatement works
- Operate plant and equipment as required
- Maintain all plant, tools, and vehicles in a clean, safe, and serviceable condition
- Work in line with site plans, health & safety legislation, and company procedures
- Complete risk assessments and report near misses or safety observations
- Use handheld electronic devices to record work progress and update daily records
- Support team objectives and maintain productivity standards
- Carry out other reasonable duties with appropriate instruction
What We’re Looking For
Essential Requirements
- Valid HGV Class 2 (Category C) licence
- Full UK driving licence
- NRSWA (LA 01-08)
- Previous experience as a groundworker
- Willingness to work across multiple sites and travel as required
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills

- G39 and 214 Safe Isolations
- Lorry Mounted Crane certificate (CPCS or ALLMI) with clamshell bucket module
- 360 Excavator training
- CSCS Card
- First Aid certification
- Manual Handling training
- General environmental awareness
