Are you an experienced and driven vet looking for something more than the typical out-of-hours role? Do you want to be part of shaping a brand-new, independent veterinary hospital from the ground up – a place where your input truly matters and your professional growth is genuinely supported, even out of hours?

Rugby Vets is opening a brand-new, independent veterinary hospital in Rugby, and we’re currently looking for forward-thinking vets who either hold a postgraduate certificate, are working towards one or are keen to pursue a certificate to join our dedicated night team at the very start of our exciting journey. This initial phase of recruitment is focused on building a core team of highly skilled, experienced clinicians to help shape the hospital’s clinical direction and set the highest standards from day one.

We offer clear pathways to clinical leadership if this is your ambition, and successful candidates will have the opportunity to accrue partnership shares in return for their contribution to practice growth. As we grow, future positions will become available for vets at all stages of their careers. This is a rare opportunity to help shape the culture, set the standards, and build something exceptional alongside a supportive leadership team that values and respects its vets.

Why This Role is Different

We’re creating a hospital that works for our people, not just the business. From your working environment to your rota, your wellbeing is a top priority. You’ll have your say on protocols, patient care pathways, and the day‑to‑day running of the clinic. We want you to thrive in your role and develop your skills, with clear pathways to clinical leadership and even potential future partnership opportunities. And because we believe our success is driven by the contributions of the whole team, you’ll benefit from a profit share scheme that recognises your impact from day one.

Our hospital is being designed to achieve both clinical excellence and team well‑being, with spacious prep and theatre areas, a dedicated imaging suite, and comfortable staff areas. We’ll be equipped to deliver the highest standards of patient care, diagnostics and surgery from the moment we open our doors, with everything you’d expect from a referral‑level facility, including a CT scanner, DR X‑ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, laparoscopy, an in‑house Idexx lab, and more. You’ll work alongside experienced RVNs and fellow vets who are committed to delivering the very best care to patients and clients alike.

We’re committed to building this the right way, with a dedicated out‑of‑hours and night team in place from the outset to deliver 24/7 care. This ensures seamless patient handovers and consistently high standards of service for our clients.

A Fantastic Client Base Awaits

Our hospital will be the only practice in the area offering 24/7 care, including overnight hospitalisation and advanced diagnostic services such as CT. Conveniently located in the heart of Rugby, we anticipate a rapid growth in our client base, both within the local community and beyond. We will also offer out‑of‑hours services for other practices in the area.

Our location and facilities put you at the centre of a thriving, fast‑growing practice, with a diverse caseload. No two days will be the same, and from the very beginning, you’ll be part of something with real momentum.

What We’re Looking For

We’re currently recruiting experienced veterinary surgeons to join both our day team and our dedicated night team and help shape our hospital in its foundational phase. This is a unique opportunity for certificate holders, those actively working towards one or keen to start a certificate, to take on a meaningful role in a growing, progressive environment.

As we build the night service, we’re offering flexibility around the rota to help you find the balance that works best for you. Whether that’s a 5‑on, 10‑off pattern or something more tailored to your lifestyle. As the practice evolves, you’ll benefit from clear development pathways and structured support, with opportunities to grow into advanced clinical or leadership roles, all within a workplace where every team member is genuinely valued, supported, and rewarded.

About You

A veterinary surgeon with a strong foundation in general practice and ECC, registered with the RCVS, a certificate holder, or someone who is currently working towards or keen to start a postgraduate certificate, with a genuine commitment to clinical excellence and ongoing development. Confident in managing both medical and surgical cases independently, and able to support junior colleagues when needed. Passionate about upholding high clinical standards, collaborating with a like‑minded team, and delivering outstanding patient and client care. Excited by the opportunity to be part of something new, bringing your ideas, initiative, and leadership to help shape the future of an exceptional, independent hospital.

What We’re Offering:

  • Salary up to £85,000 depending on experience and rota patterns
  • Relocation package potentially available for the right candidate
  • Flexible working patterns, such as a 5‑on, 10‑off rota or happy to discuss other options
  • Profit share scheme from day one, because everyone contributes to our success
  • Certificate support is fully funded with dedicated CPD budgets
  • Professional fees covered (RCVS, VDS, BVA, and relevant specialist memberships)
  • Wellbeing prioritised, including a dedicated staff rest area and sleep breaks where possible
  • Clear development pathways, with opportunities to progress into leadership or advanced clinical roles as the practice grows
  • A voice in how the practice operates – from protocols to patient care, your opinion counts

If you’re ready to be involved in something genuinely exciting, we would love to hear from you. Email us for more information or to find a suitable time for a chat, or apply now.
