Rugby Borough Council is seeking a skilled and dedicated Vehicle Maintenance Fitter to join our team. This critical role ensures that all Council-owned vehicles, plant, and machinery are maintained to the highest standards, in line with legal, safety, and Council requirements. Your work will directly support Council services by keeping our fleet safe, compliant, and fully operational.
In this position, you will carry out repairs, servicing, and maintenance on a wide range of vehicles, including conducting taxi compliance tests, preparing vehicles for MOT inspections (Class 4 and 7), and supporting LGV MOT preparation to meet DVSA standards. Additionally, you will provide mobile roadside support for breakdowns, including response to landfill sites as required.
Key Responsibilities- Vehicle Maintenance & Repair: Conduct all required servicing, repairs, and MOT preparations for the Council's fleet, ensuring all vehicles, plant, and machinery meet DVSA and Council standards.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure all maintenance, repair work, and workshop practices are compliant with Health and Safety policies.
- Documentation: Accurately document all maintenance activities per DVSA and Council requirements.
- Mobile Response: Attend to breakdowns at the roadside and landfill sites during working hours.
- Taxi and MOT Compliance Testing: Prepare and perform compliance checks on Hackney Carriages and other hire vehicles, in addition to Department of Transport testing preparations.
- Workplace Organisation: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized working environment, including safe storage and maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Qualifications: Ideally qualified to perform taxi compliance and MOT Class 4 and 7 preparation tests. Candidates without qualifications must be willing to complete necessary training.
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance, safety protocols, and compliance requirements.
- Customer Service: Ability to interact courteously with the public and Council representatives.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work varied hours, including weekends and bank holidays as needed.
- Health & Safety: Commitment to Health and Safety protocols, with knowledge of safe maintenance practices.
- Experience working in a Council or public sector environment.
- Knowledge of DVSA standards and vehicle compliance regulations.
