Trainee Homelessness and Prevention Officer

£28,598 – £31,022 progressing to £32,597 – £36,363

Full time – 37 hours a week

About the role

Our Housing Advice and Enabling Team support customers to find solutions for their housing issues by providing housing and financial advice and support, liaising with landlords and developing personalised housing plans with a firm focus on the prevention of homelessness.

As a Trainee Homelessness and Prevention Officer you’ll be developing over a 24-month period to become a Homelessness Prevention officer. You’ll be gaining key knowledge on homelessness legislation and the delivering of the service, with a combination of internal, external and on the job training.

While training you’ll be supporting the team in their key activities of –

  • Outreach work with those who are rough sleeping or at risk of rough sleeping, in hospital and require support to return home.
  • Providing housing options, advice and guidance to those who are homeless or threatened with homelessness with the aim to assist with prevention of homelessness at the earliest possible stage.
  • Administering applications from residents approaching the Council as homeless or threatened with homelessness.
  • The provision of temporary accommodation including the provision of private sector leased accommodation.
  • Determining applications to join the Council’s Housing Waiting List

About you

You’ll have an interest in working with members of the community to prevent and reduce homelessness, with an understanding of the issues facing customers in the current housing climate.

An enthusiasm and drive to learn new things will be key as you’ll be constantly training, developing your knowledge, learning new things and gaining new experiences. This role could be great for a recent graduate or a career-changer alike.

You’ll need a good understanding of the importance of confidentiality, safe practice, safeguarding, anti-discriminatory practice and equal opportunity alongside experience of providing a high standard of customer service to clients who demonstrate a range of challenging behaviours.
