Role Description

The Senior Sous Chef is a full-time, on-site role based in the London Area, United Kingdom. This position supports the Head Chef in leading day-to-day kitchen operations, including menu execution and creation, food preparation, cooking, and plating to consistently high standards. The Senior Sous Chef oversees kitchen sections during service, coordinates kitchen staff, and helps manage ordering, stock control, and waste reduction in line with cost and quality targets. They are responsible for maintaining food safety, hygiene, and health and safety compliance, as well as ensuring kitchen equipment is used and maintained correctly. The role also contributes to menu development, training and coaching junior team members, and collaborating with front-of-house teams to deliver an excellent guest experience.

Qualifications

  • Strong culinary skills, including experience in high-volume or high-end kitchens, with proven ability to execute dishes consistently and to specification.
  • Strong British food knowledge required with a passion for farm to fork.
  • Experience in kitchen leadership, including supervising shifts, delegating tasks, and coaching junior chefs and kitchen assistants.
  • Solid knowledge of food safety, hygiene standards, and health and safety regulations, with relevant certifications preferred (e.g., Food Safety Level 2/3 or equivalent).
  • Competence in stock management, ordering, portion control, and waste reduction to support cost-effective kitchen operations.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure, remain organized during busy services, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with both kitchen and front-of-house teams.
  • Experience contributing to menu planning, specials, and recipe development is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience as a Sous Chef or strong experience as a Junior Sous Chef ready to step up; formal culinary training or apprenticeship is an advantage.
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, in line with business needs.
