Main duties of the job:
A working day usually consists of a mix of 15 minute face to face and 10 minute telephone appointments, with diary slots and dedicated Admin Sessions (e.g. a 6 session GP will have 1 Admin Session per fortnight). You will provide a full range of general medical services. There may be a requirement to be on call for clinically urgent and emergency problems in accordance with the associated job plan. You are expected to support the partnership of Ruby Country Medical Group in providing all services outlined in the Core Contract.
You will support and input into the aims of the Group in areas of clinical governance, good practice, quality outcomes framework, enhanced services, practice audit, referral review and any other improvement plans as determined by the Group. You will utilise and develop any skills for the improvement of services to patients, such as minor operations, child health surveillance, and family planning training etc, if approved by the ICB. This will be subject to presentation of the appropriate certificates and update of relevant courses. You will maintain and keep good standards of computerised clinical records and paperwork at all times.

Surfing, open water sea-pool swimming, sea kayaking, the South West coastal path and moorland splendour are all in easy reach from our practices. We extend inland from the beautiful sandy beaches of North Cornwall almost to the edge of the Dartmoor wilderness.
Our team consists of 2 Partners, 1 Practice Manager, 9 Employed GPs, and a full skills mix of clinicians including Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Prescriber and Paramedics. Not forgetting our fantastic Patient Services, Secretarial and Administrative teams, who work very hard to minimise the administrative burden for the clinical team. We are an established training practice with 2 GP Trainers. In addition to GP Trainees, we also support medical and nursing students. There are opportunities for you to get involved in teaching if this is an area of interest.
We are members of the Coast and Country PCN with an in-house Pharmacy team (Clinical Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians), Wellbeing team (Social Prescribers, Health and Wellbeing Coach), Mental Health team (Mental Health Practitioner and Support Worker) and Care Co-Ordinators (HCAs and GPA).

Scheduling in the Job Plan:
Providing medical services to patients of Ruby Country Medical Group, with a mix of 15 minute face to face and 10 minute telephone appointments. The number of slots per session will normally be 12. However during busy times, you will be expected to take on a proportion of any urgent appointments. Home visits will only be required if the Home Visiting team is not fully staffed due to sickness. Following up test results and dealing with correspondence, paperwork, and test results associated with patient care. Undertake duty doctor role as scheduled. Providing choice to the patient who is being referred for Secondary Care. For the purpose of patient care and the Quality & Outcomes Framework, maintain accurate records electronically within agreed Practice procedures. Participate in and operate clinical governance methods and systems approved by the Partnership or ICB e.g. medical audit or quality assurance initiatives. Liaising with other members of the Primary Care Health Team and other agencies as appropriate, to ensure good relationships are always maintained with patients, colleagues and other agencies. Carrying out work considered outside the NHS, such as medical examinations, certificates and reports etc where the income is retained by the employer. All fees received by you, by virtue of your position in the practice, shall be paid to the Practice. Maintaining a high standard of care to patients by showing a commitment to continuing professional development and by participation in practice, clinical and training meetings. Medication queries in relation to registered patients at the practice. Work within practice policies on prescribing, referral and other general clinical issues, which the Practice will from time to time agree. Carry out other duties, both clinical, including Quality and Outcome Framework, Enhanced services, and administrative as are commensurate with the position. Support the provision of supervision to medical students at the practice. Respond to/resolve any telephone queries from patients or other healthcare professionals as well as completing administrative/desktop medicine related tasks throughout the day, within the job plan, recognising that all practitioners work at different rates. Clinical duties will include seeing people with acute conditions, ongoing chronic conditions and reviews based on QOF.
Administration:
Complete investigations, referrals and associated documentation within appropriate timescales and in line with Group policies. Action results on a daily basis for your own patients, and deal with any correspondence addressed to you. Deal with telephone queries from patients or other health care professionals. Complete examinations and reports under the PMS contract. Additionally, you may be expected to complete reports requested by other parties such as insurance companies and employers. Use appropriate processes for computerised record keeping including computerised clinical templates and protocols.
Meetings/CPD:
Attend and participate in Group meetings as required, including regular salaried GP meetings. Attend Morning Coffee Break, which will be in part CPD.
