The Technical Solutions Engineer plays a key role in supporting customers, suppliers, and colleagues with the selection, application, and implementation of Gapp's automation and motion control technologies. Working across products including linear motion systems, motors, gearboxes, power transmission, and related automation solutions, the role combines technical support, solution development, project coordination, and customer engagement. This is a broad and collaborative position suited to an engineer who enjoys understanding customer challenges, developing practical solutions, and working closely with colleagues and supply partners. While technical competence is essential, success in the role depends equally on communication, curiosity, teamwork, and the ability to learn across a diverse range of applications and industries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support customers with technical enquiries via phone, email, online meetings and site visits.
  • Understand customer applications, requirements and challenges through effective questioning and investigation.
  • Recommend suitable products and integrated solutions from the Gapp portfolio.
  • Prepare technical proposals, quotations and solution recommendations follow up and engage in the sales process.
  • Interpret machine drawings, specifications and application requirements.
  • Assist customers through product selection, implementation and commissioning activities where required.
  • Deliver product demonstrations and technical presentations to OEMs, system integrators and end users.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of Gapp's products and technologies.
  • Build application knowledge across key industrial sectors and customer markets.
  • Stay informed of emerging technologies, industry trends and competing solutions.
  • Attend supplier training, product launches and technical seminars.
  • Share knowledge and best practices with colleagues across the business.
  • Contribute to the development of technical resources, guides and training materials.
  • Work with customers, suppliers and colleagues to develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Support projects from concept through to implementation and completion.
  • Define and document customer requirements and solution proposals.
  • Coordinate technical activities and communicate progress to stakeholders.
  • Identify risks, issues and opportunities and escalate where appropriate.
  • Contribute to project reviews and lessons learned following project completion.
  • Investigate and diagnose product and application issues.
  • Replicate customer problems where necessary to identify root causes.
  • Develop or utilise test equipment and demonstration systems to support investigations.
  • Work with suppliers and customers to determine and implement corrective actions.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives arising from customer feedback and field experience.
  • Manage product returns in accordance with company procedures.
  • Perform initial inspection and testing of returned products.
  • Coordinate repair, replacement or supplier investigations when required.
  • Maintain clear communication with customers regarding findings and outcomes.
  • Develop strong working relationships with key supply partners.

Essential Requirements

  • Engineering qualification (HNC/HND, Degree, Apprenticeship or equivalent experience).
  • Experience in an industrial, mechanical, automation, electrical or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong technical aptitude and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Good communication and customer-facing skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience with linear motion, motors, gearboxes, power transmission or automation products.
  • Experience in technical sales, applications engineering or solution development.
  • Knowledge of CAD software.
