The Role
Permanent Full Time. Knowlton & Newman, part of the Rubix Group, provide 24/7 engineering services. We repair, overhaul, install, and maintain pumps, motors, gearboxes, compressors, hydraulic equipment and cover a wide range of industrial equipment for customers across multiple sectors.
The Technician role is a multi-skilled position, responsible for the installation, assembly, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of industrial systems and equipment. This generalist description outlines the core responsibilities expected of all technicians, with specialist tasks added depending on the area of expertise (e.g., Winder, Pumps, Site Services, Electrical, Hydraulic, Compressor, Motors, Gearboxes).
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse job cards and work instructions to determine scope, status, limitations, and requirements.
- Inspect, test, assemble, and commission industrial equipment to ensure compliance with customer specifications and internal standards.
- Carry out fault diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Record work undertaken, parts used, and time spent, ensuring accurate completion of job documentation.
- Operate workshop and site equipment safely, in line with training and company procedures.
- Liaise with customers, colleagues, and management to provide updates and technical support.
- Ensure all work is completed to the required quality and delivered on time.
- Promote and uphold company values, focusing on safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
- Conduct electrical installation, inspection, and testing of motors, panels, and control equipment. Diagnose electrical faults and carry out remedial work safely in line with IEE Wiring Regulations.
Key Skills and Qualifications
- Proven engineering/technical background in industrial maintenance.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical manuals.
- Experience using hand tools, workshop machinery, and test equipment.
- Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills when dealing with colleagues and customers.
- Flexible, with the ability to work both in the workshop and on customer sites.
- Qualifications (role-dependent): Recognised apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent).
- Specialist training/certification where applicable (e.g., lifting, confined space, electrical testing).
- Valid UK driving licence preferred.
